HAIR ARTS
I
Hair as a Medium
My work spans Film & TV. Creative and visual projects. Writing and education. When I am not on set, through pleasurable pursuits like research, writing, discussions and educating I like reflecting on how hair is worn, displayed, represented, taught and what it means to us.
My hair interests evolved from hands-on practice through creative experimentation to industry and leadership.
Film & TV
I work in Film & TV as a hair artist and designer. I can be trusted for calm leadership, problem-solving, and actor collaboration.
I get to mentor hair and makeup artists, speak on panels, and contribute as a juror for industry awards and film festivals. These experiences inform my industry involvement, my work, helping shape projects and develop training initiatives that are practical and forward-thinking.
BLCKSTR Workshops
Alongside on-set work I developed an educational practice called BLCKSTR, geared to helping hair and makeup departments bridge skill gaps, and deal with specifics like working on-set with textured hair and deep skin tones. Through BLCKSTR, I get to collaborate with artists and screen organisations to deliver industry related projects. BLCKSTR reflects my commitment to skills development, education, access and industry standards.
As an Artist
I resonate deeply with context. What circumstances influence hair and makeup? What else is hair and makeup without being too literal? For me it's not just the hair or makeup that creates the art - it might be the tools, the waste or the unfinished wig.
Annie Little Hair Arts brings together my work and interests.
